LED lighting is the tiny little indicator lights on control panels and digital displays of electronics,to be simple,LED stands for light emitting diodes which give off light when electricity is introduced to the diode and causes little electrons to dance around within.
The LED, or Light Emitting Diode, is a simple semi-conductor with extra electrons added to make it more conductive to electricity. The moving atoms in diodes made of certain materials release basic units of light called photons. The frequency of the photons, or the color of the light emitted, depends on the distance that the electrons travel. The rounded plastic bulb directs the light towards the tip, making them very bright considering their size.
LED lights burn cooler but the heat they do produce stays inside the semiconductor. This heat needs to be extracted and dissipated in order to prevent the light from overheating and not working properly. This meant that fixtures had to be designed so this energy could be absorb and dissipated by an item called the “heat sink” or in such a way that the actual fixture becomes the heat sink. This transition took some time and these fixtures have only become available in the last few years. There were some changes made to the design of the light bulb as well.
As LED lights are small, rugged and plastic, they are much more durable than other types of bulbs and can be used in a variety of tight places where light is desired. Also, they can handle being turned on and off frequently, a problem with other types of light bulbs. LED lightings are extremely energy efficient, are not manufactured with dangerous metals or gasses, last for very long periods of time, and do not readily ‘burn out’as conventional bulbs tend to do,instead, LED lighting puts out constant light that gradually reduces in intensity. On average, an incandescent light will last for 1,000 hours, a CFL for 10,000 hours, but an LED light will last for up to 100,000 hours. An LED light bulb which was left on day and night could run for up to 11 years before fading out. An incandescent light, on the other hand would have to be replaced every month and a half. You would go through many incandescent bulbs for every one LED light bulb.
As LED Lighting is more efficient and not restricted by size,LED lighting is becoming much less expensive and has proven to be an efficient way to provide light to small spaces and to offer directed light. These tiny semi-conductors can be used almost anywhere and do not break nearly as easily as other light bulbs.
